Bill Pay & Online Banking Enhancements

FAQ

Why did Coastal change the bill pay system?
Coastal changed bill pay systems for improved functionality and full integration into Online Banking. New features were added that the previous vendor indicated that they would not provide.

Key Features:

  • The Bill Pay tab now opens up on the same page, which allows you to do your entire bill paying right inside Online Banking.
  • Bill Pay now offers e-Bills for those participating payees. You can sign up to have your bills electronically delivered with Bill Pay and the option to set up automatic payments when the e-Bill arrives. They can be delivered and paid without any intervention (no worries of billing errors because rules indicate it has to fall with a normal amount range).
  • Have the ability to set up email scheduled reminders when bills are due. This flexibility allows for you to type in due date, how often bill is received and how far in advance of the due date to schedule the reminder.
  • Ability to pay bills from multiple Coastal checking accounts.
  • The new due date processing allows for the bill to be paid and the funds debited from your account both on the same day. Because of this new feature you no longer have to schedule payments 2-5 days in advance and the funds are not debited until the day of the payment.
  • Event emails are sent to Bill Pay users based on certain events (for instance: member signs up for Bill Pay but hasn’t set up any payees for a period of time). Member will receive an email reminding them to set up payees.
  • Now when logging into Online Banking the page that opens is the Overview page, which displays a summary of accounts, recent activity, pending payments, transfers, bills, alerts and more. You have the ability to pay bills and schedule transfers directly from the Overview page.
  • Biller grouping simplifies biller (payee) list management by grouping billers, easier to find particular billers you wish to pay, and makes bill pay fast and more convenient.
  • Quick Biller Add appears above the Biller list in Payment Center. This feature suggests probable Billers by using zip code functionality and allows Billers to be grouped together into categories.

Why did all my biller’s (payee's) names change?
In the old system nicknames were used for the biller’s name. In the new Bill Pay system, the actual biller (payee) name or company name is used, but underneath, the nickname will be displayed. For example, if AT&T was used as a nickname for the biller, but the actual company name is Bell South, then their name will be listed as Bell South, but underneath the nickname will display AT&T.

Where is my bill pay history?
Bill pay history was not loaded into the new Bill Pay system. This information can be retrieved two ways:

  • Log into Online Banking
  • Overview Tab will display after logging into Online Banking
  • Under Balance Overview
  • Click on checking account and view account history
or
  • Log into Online Banking
  • Click on the Accounts tab
  • Click on the Activity tab and account activity will display
  • Under the heading “Type”, click the drop down arrow
  • Click on Bill Payment, then set “From” and “To” date
  • Click on Display button, all Bill Payments will display according to date set

Why wasn’t my account debited when I set-up my payment?
The bill will be paid and the funds debited from your account both on the same day. For instance: If bill was due on July 10th, payment can be setup to come out of your account on July 10th and the biller (payee) will be paid. You no longer have to schedule payments 2-5 days in advance.

UPDATE (6/1/10): Please read through the NEW Online Bill Pay Terms & Conditions, which are effective as of June 12, 2010.

UPDATE (6/18/10): On Sunday, June 20, we will add the following exciting features to our Bill Pay service:

Biller Grouping:
Biller Grouping allows you to group individual bills that you pay often, making it easier to access them. You can also minimize or even hide groups of rarely used billers – eliminating clutter from the screen. If you have business and personal data in one Bill Pay account, Biller Grouping makes it easier to keep those bills separated.

Quick Biller Add:
Quick Biller Add is a new “mini-module” that will appear above your Biller List in Bill Pay. It lists the popular billers in your geographical area that we already have set up in the system. Because we already have the biller’s name, address, and phone number, all you need to do is enter in your account number you have with them. It’s the quickest, easiest way to set up a biller.

Please note: While these enhancements are being installed, Bill Pay will be unavailable from 2:00 AM EST – 6:00 AM EST on Sunday, June 20.

We hope you are enjoying our new and improved Bill Pay service. Look for these Bill Pay enhancements on
Sunday, June 20.

You can even set up automatic payments when the e-Bill arrives. e-Bills can be delivered and paid without any intervention (no worries of billing errors because rules indicate it has to fall within a normal amount range)

Pay from Multiple Checking Accounts
Pay bills from any of your Coastal Checking accounts listed, even ones that you are joint on.

Due Date Processing
With newBill Pay, Coastal does not take money out of your account in advance of the payment date. Funds are paid to your biller (payee) on the date you select by either electronic draft or paper check drawn on your account.

When you select a payment date you are indicating the date your funds are to be received by your payee (most often the due date). For your convenience, payments can be scheduled up to one year in advance.

Remember to keep your bill information up-to-date. If the name of a payee, the mailing address or your account number changes be sure to update the information in "Manage My Bills". Incorrect information can affect payment processing.
NOTE: Bill Payments do not appear in your account history until they have cleared your account and have been collected by the payee.

Converting to the New Bill Pay

Converting to the new Bill Pay service is seamless for current users. Current users do NOT have to sign up again and any pending activity scheduled on our old system has transfered over to the new system.  Members who aren't yet Bill Pay users can easily enroll by selecting the Bill Pay tab, reading and accepting the disclosure, and then begin paying bills immediately.
