oastal Credit Union is pleased to announce Joan Nelson, Board Chair, is the recipient of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award for 2016. At a gala held in Charlotte last evening, Joan received her award amongst credit union industry peers in attendance.
For over 23 years, Ms. Nelson has volunteered for and served on Coastal’s Board of Directors. Her passion, dedication, and leadership to the Board has seen her through many innovative initiatives such as the installation of our Personal Teller Machines (PTMs) and, most recently, our award-winning initiative the Power of Sharing Inaugural Gala, which celebrated Triangle are nonprofits and gave back (through the Coastal Federal Credit Union Foundation) over $280,000 for projects that help alleviate hunger, help the financially vulnerable, and increase financial literacy.
Additionally, she has taken a direct hand in two critical committees within Coastal that determine pricing and priorities: the Board of Directors Executive Committee and the Asset/Liability Committee. Joan has been instrumental in offering her guidance and expertise to these and many other Coastal initiatives throughout her tenure.
“As a volunteer, I am extremely proud of the product and service innovation we are delivering to our members, and the support we are providing to our communities, “says Ms. Nelson. “It clearly shows the spirit of the credit union industry for not only helping those who trust us for financial services, but also helping to support the needs of our local communities to enrich the lives of many.”
The Carolina’s Credit Union League Lifetime Achievement Award honors individuals who have dedicated their life to promoting the credit union philosophy, created innovative concepts, and exhibited leadership that has made a significant and lasting impact in the credit union movement.
