At a credit union industry gala hosted by the Carolina’s Credit Union Foundation on Friday, February 3, 2017, the Coastal Federal Credit Union Foundation was the recipient of the prestigious Dora Maxwell Award.
This award is given to a credit union that exemplifies social responsibility through the projects they support that help to strengthen the structure of a community. The foundation received this award for its Power of Sharing event held in May of 2016.
The Power of Sharing Gala combined the efforts and financial resources of Coastal Federal Credit Union Foundation with various business partners throughout the Triangle to recognize the incredible work and impact that non-profit organizations have on our communities. Those business partners gave individually while some collaborated amongst each other, and still others participated in both.
There were three main goals of the Power of Sharing –
- to bring different business partners together on the same stage to demonstrate their commitment to bettering their communities through their financial support of either their chosen nonprofit or those that were nominated for a Power of Sharing award
- to fund organizations that have projects or programs that will specifically alleviate food insecurity, help the financially vulnerable or contribute to education
- to highlight the amazing work done in our community by nonprofits day in and day out without recognition
A total of $285,000 in charitable contributions were made to organizations that continue to make a significant impact in our communities.
“By bringing together business leaders and nonprofit organizations under the same platform with the goal of making a larger impact in the community together, the Power of Sharing Gala supports the needs of our community, “says Chuck Purvis, President and CEO. “We can’t thank the Carolina’s Credit Union Foundation enough for recognizing the impact this event had on our Triangle nonprofit partners.”
Congratulations once again to the area Nonprofits who each received Power of Sharing award - Future Farmers of America (FFA), Girls on the Run, Global Health Connections International, Kramden Institute, YMCA of Durham, East Durham Children's Initiative, The Walking Classroom, SEEDS, Alice Aycock Poe Center, Youth Villages, and Families Together.
