The Carolinas Credit Union Foundation has announced that Coastal Credit Union is the 1st place winner of the 2017 Louise Herring Award for its asset class (more than $1 billion). The award is given for putting credit union philosophy into action, and Coastal is being recognized for its 2017 Principles and Philosophy Workshop for Employees.
Dubbed “Camp Coastal” by attendees, the workshop was coordinated and implemented by Coastal’s credit union development educators, and made available to 50 non-management employees in April. The two-day event focused on the importance of the seven cooperative principles that Coastal operates under, and explored how employees can put those principles into action as they serve members. Based on the initial success, two additional workshops have been planned for early 2018.
Coastal will now move on to the national awards competition, run by Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Winners will be announced in October. This is the second honor for the program, which was also awarded the CUDE Cooperative Spirit Award from the National Credit Union Foundation in July.
Additionally, the Coastal Credit Union Foundation earned a second place Dora Maxwell Award for social responsibility and community service. The award was based on the Foundation’s 2017 Power of Sharing event. This is the second year in a row that the Power of Sharing event has earned a Dora Maxwell Award.
Coastal will collect the statewide awards at the Carolinas Credit Union Connect Conference in February.
