According to U.S. News & World Report, college costs have done something unusual. For the 2020-21 academic year, the average tuition and fees for private colleges have fallen by about 5%, with in- and -out-of-state costs at public colleges dropping by 4% and 6%.
Still, cost remains the biggest hurdle that students face in completing higher education.
One way that credit unions can help prospective students is through the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Scholarship Fund. The foundation oversees scholarships for several credit unions throughout the Carolinas, including Coastal.
Members of any credit union in North or South Carolina, with a non-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, are eligible to apply. The application deadline is February 1, 2021. Scholarship recipients will be notified in April.
