We’re back with a new episode of Coffee with Chuck, in a brand-new format. As all of have had to do, even my video messages to members are adapting to life during COVID-19. I’m happy that we’re once again able to begin welcoming guests into each video, and have started to recapture some of the feeling of being together in person.
This is important, because the topics we cover in this episode are all about unity, connection and being there for our members.
Commitment to Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging
In this episode, our new Chief Culture and Impact Officer, Creighton Blackwell, joins us to talk about his new role and how it will help us live our core values, especially Welcoming Diversity. Our mission of helping people bank better to live better begins with developing a strong and positive company culture, and understanding the impact that our decisions make on our employees, our members and our community.
COVID-19 has worsened a lot of the inequity that various members of our community have experienced. We’ve asked Creighton to take the lead in how Coastal improves the lives the most vulnerable members and employees. His experience at Coastal and deep involvement in the community will be tremendous assets to us helping make you successful.
The disruption from the pandemic forced us to postpone this year’s annual meeting, originally planned for April. We’re ready to move ahead, and are having this year’s event virtually on Monday, October 26th at 7PM.
The annual meeting and board of directors’ election will take place via Webex Events. You can RSVP ahead of time and download the meeting materials on our website, COASTAL24.com/annualmeeting. Once you register, you’ll get a confirmation message and a reminder via email.
Our annual meeting is an important event for the credit union, as member participation is what sets cooperatives like ours apart from other types of businesses. It’s a great opportunity to have your voice heard, and to learn directly from our leaders about the accomplishments of the past year, and what we have planned for the future. We hope to see you there.
A Look Ahead
As we look to finishing up 2020, we’re focused on getting our members through the remaining impact of COVID. We’ve planned ahead to help our members with their individual needs, while softening the financial effects we’ll feel in 2021 and beyond. I’m pleased that we’ve made it through six months of pandemic response while maintaining high service levels and protecting our most vulnerable members and employees.
Between now and the end of the year, we’re working on a plan to begin re-opening our branch lobbies. We’ve been utilizing branch space to help ensure back-office employees who could not work remotely would have a safe, isolated space to continue working. As we work on getting them back into our headquarters, we’ll begin welcoming members back into branches by appointment. We’re looking ahead to providing for our members’ growing loan needs. We’ve been seeing strong mortgage activity all year, and consumer loan demand is starting to pick up again.
Thank you for putting your trust and confidence in us over the course of this year. I know that there’s still a lot of uncertainty, but last six months have demonstrated that the path ahead is Coastal and our members being in it together.
