• We are a democracy, giving each member equal ownership and one vote, regardless of how much money you have on deposit.
• We are governed by a board of directors, elected by and from the membership.
• We help members become better-educated consumers of financial services.
• We pay property taxes, sales taxes and payroll taxes, but as a not-for-profit organization, we are exempt under the law from federal income taxes.
• Our people-first philosophy motivates us to get involved in community charitable activities and worthwhile causes.

We’re proud that Coastal’s members are fiercely loyal.

We’d like to think there’s a good reason for that. Sure, members like that our not-for-profit status means higher savings rates and low loan costs. They like the fact that our services are easy to access through longer branch opening hours and convenient Digital Banking Services.

But we hope what really hits home is that we share the values of the communities we serve. We’re here to help, in good times and bad, people of modest means as well as the wealthy. We believe our efforts to make consumers more educated is appreciated in a world where some businesses try to pull the wool over the public’s eyes. We believe members like having a say in how Coastal is run, through our volunteer board of directors. Finally, we believe people recognize our efforts to provide support for worthwhile causes through our Coastal Credit Union Foundation. At Coastal, we focus on more than just doing business in North Carolina. We believe in its people as strongly as they believe in us.
