InflIt’s the back-to-school season once again, and with it comes packed lunches, carpool lines, and homework. Your kids may be sad that summer camps, family vacations, and pool days are coming to an end, but you may be excited to regain a consistent routine.

Yet, for many low-income families in North Carolina, this season can mean returning to a bit of stability. In North Carolina, 900,000 children – that’s 1 in 6 kids – rely on free or reduced-price meals at school. Without that support, summertime becomes a challenging season.

That’s where The Four Leaf Clover Program is focused. Founded by Cleo McKinnon and based in Benson, North Carolina, this volunteer-run group provides students with summer programming, meals, and groceries throughout their summer break.

The Coastal Credit Union Foundation exists to uplift our neighbors and communities in North Carolina. One of the ways we achieve that mission is by empowering the volunteer-run community groups already doing the work of caring for our neighbors. The Four Leaf Clover Program is a prime example of this, and why we’ve selected them as a grant recipient.

Check out this article for a glimpse into their work, and follow them on Facebook to stay up-to-date on their news.
